f you’re planning a backyard project or a small renovation, you’ve probably heard the term dry hire—but what does it actually mean?
Let’s break it down.
What is Dry Hire?
Dry hire means you’re hiring equipment without an operator. It’s perfect for DIYers and tradies who want to save costs and handle the job themselves.
At Carson Equipment Hire, we offer dry hire excavators to the Ipswich and Brisbane West regions —no license required, and no operator needed. You pick it up, you operate it, and return it when you’re done.
What’s Included?
With a dry hire from us, you get:
- A well-maintained machine
- The attachments you need (mud buckets, auger, hydraulic grip—just ask!)
- A towed trailer, ready to hitch up and go
- A quick operating rundown at pickup so you feel confident using the machine
- Flexible day-rate pricing to suit your project needs
What’s Not Included?
Because it’s dry hire, we don’t include:
- An operator (you’re the driver!)
- On-site support or supervision
- Fuel refills (but we send you off full and ready)
Who Can Dry Hire?
If you’re over 18 and have a suitable vehicle to tow the trailer, you’re good to go. No heavy machinery license required. Whether you’re landscaping, digging trenches, or prepping for a shed slab—our gear is DIY friendly.
I’d been nervous about hiring machinery, but Jay from Carson Equipment Hire was fantastic. Super helpful from the first phone call, and the pickup process was quick and easy. Loved that no licence was needed and the machine was ready to go!
